Eina McHugh, Director
1. Is this the first time you have made your own postcard, if not, when was the last time
Easter holidays, 1967, for Blue Peter’s draw a dinosaur’ competition (I didn’t win and it still hurts….)

2. Can you tell us a little about the inspiration or thoughts behind the card you’ve created?
I wanted to keep my image simple yet also weave in words that are important to me when I think of family members. The poem on the reverse I gave to my father some years ago – I love its tenderness.

3. As the Director of The Ark, what message would you put on a postcard to a family?
Keep a space for play together

4. Do you remember the first time you ever received a postcard?
Summer 1968, when my father was away travelling in Morocco – I remember the thrill of a dancer on the card whose dress had real fabric!

5. Do you have a cherished postcard?
I love all the cards sent to me with love, encouragement and affection

6. Do you send letters/ postcards to your friends when away?
I write lots of cards - but invariably post them at Dublin airport on my return….

7. For Christmas/ birthdays, do any of your friends or relatives ever send you a personally designed card?
Yes – of course my favourites are from children

8. If you could write a postcard sized message to your own family, what would it say?
Keep Going

9. Have you ever kept special postcards you've ever received? Where do you keep them?
My special postcards are kept in a filing cabinet.

10. Did you ever enter a postcard competition on television, back before email/ texts?
Blue Peter competition, Easter holidays 1967… their lack of judgement will never be forgiven!

The Ark, Europe's first custom-built Children's Cultural Centre, programmes, promotes and hosts high quality cultural work which is by children, for children and about children. The Ark is a charitable organisation, founded on the principle that all children, as citizens, have the same cultural entitlements as adults. We work with a diverse range of Irish and international artists to develop original, inspirational and playful programmes for children (aged between 3-14) so that they can extend their imaginations and horizons. www.ark.ie
